• Explore the history of Hawaiʻi
• Explain Hawaiian cultural practices
• Promote respect for the Hawaiian Culture
• Familiarize participants with proper Hawaiian protocol and concepts
• Introductory Hawaiian Language pronunciation.

Expanding upon LB150, this course further explores the Native Hawaiian culture and its application in daily life. Course objectives:
• Proper pronunciation of commonly used Hawaiian words and phrases
• Identification of Native Hawaiian plants and its uses.
• Learn proper Hawaiian protocol when visiting sites around the island.
• Explore Hawaiian stories and the lessons learned from them.

“Hawai‘i Today” provides an introduction to the history of non-Native Hawai‘i residents, their contributions to Hawai‘i’s culture, and the contemporary traditions, values and perspectives of modern Hawai‘i. Visitors, as well as locals will gain insight into the various forces that have molded Hawai‘i into the place it is today including:
• The history of Hawai‘i’s immigrants
• The effects and culmination of cultures which have shaped modern Hawai‘i
• The various forces working in Hawai‘i’s “melting pot” or “salad bowl”
• Contemporary issues facing Hawai‘i now and in the future
